Question: Headstone designs and meanings, does anyone know where I can find out if a certain flower has a meaning?

Question : Headstone designs and meanings, does anyone know where I can find out if a certain flower has a meaning?
I want to get a tattoo of the flower on my mom's headstone, but would like to know if there is a meaning behind it. Does anyone know of a good place to find out?

it would help if you mentioned the actual name of the flower--I'm sure there are books about symbols--but there are so many: afro based symbols ... celtic based symbols ... jewish symbols--why not try looking in books of and about the tarot: Many flowers have many meanings in that venue.

I am a contributor on Find a Grave. ( www.findagrave.com) you might want to go to this website and and click on the Discussion Forums link. There are a lot of people interested in tombstone inscriptions and symbols who have a wealth of knowledge on the topic. I believe to use the discussion forums, you have to register but registration is free. If you want to simply browse what is there, registration isn't necessary. Blessings,

Hmmm. Aside from the standard floral meanings... here's a thought. WHO ordered the tombstone for mom? If you are in touch with that person (and I understand you might not be), you might ask why they chose that flower and its significance for your mother. It might be as simple as it was just her favorite. The other is to locate the monument company that actually MAKES them, and have a chat. It might be that they are real familiar with selections of symbols, and why they offer/ suggest certain things to the family.

http://tattoo.about.com/cs/beginners/l/aa020803a.htmhere is a website from someone who has background in exactly what you want, for tatoo purposes. Normally, I'll admit I am not a fan of tatoos, but I really think your idea is cool.
