depends how close - if its just an aquaintance, a card is ok - if its a closeish friend that you dont know that well... a great way to earn points is to get a funky gift. i got a talking napolean dynamite doll for my birthday for christmas from a guy and i looked at him in a new way after that... it was too sweet, and so funny.

A small wooden jewelry box, with something nice painted, or drawled on it. like a rose. Us women can always use a jewelry box, and if you want to make it really nice, get her a pair of earring to put in it. Plus a card. I think it is real sweet of you to ask such a sweet question. hmmm... its kind of hard without a specific age range. If its just friend then maybe just a card... or to be extra generous a giftcard. I'm a girl and if she's your girlfriend nothing says happy birthday like a Card and maybe a stuffed animal(not toooooo cute as in baby cute) that has something that says happy birthday and I love you!
