This is 'Darwin's Orchid' so named because when Darwin saw it he predicted the existence of a moth with a tongue long enough to reach the end of the 14" nectary. Forty years later the moth was discovered and given the species name 'praedicta'. This is the December flowering form, also known as the 'star of Bethlehem'. Heavily fragrant at night.
